A Texas man could soon be a world record holder, thanks to Selena Quintanilla

TEXAS (KXAN) — A Texas man could soon be a Guinness World Record holder — all thanks to the Queen of Tejano Music herself. Andrew Longoria will compete in a world record attempt June 29 centered around the largest collection of Selena Quintanilla memorabilia, with approximately 1,300 pieces gathered over the years. It’s a collection years in the making, ever since Longoria and his grandmother first purchased her “Dreaming of You” CD in 1997. KXAN first spoke with Longoria in January 2023 when he was preparing for his initial record attempt. He had to postpone that first attempt, but is back and vying for the world record. He’s spent roughly a decade documenting his burgeoning collection as an ode to his love for Selena’s music. “I was 5 years old when I got the [Dreaming of You] album,” Longoria told KXAN in 2023. “So to know how long I’ve been a fan and been collecting — it’s pretty phenomenal, to be perfectly honest.” Growing up near the Selena Museum in Corpus Christ...

Superheroes reinvented: ‘Supacell’ is about to change the game

Image
Wormholes, spectacular VFX and Avirex jackets as far as the eye can see. No, this isn’t Marvel. We’re behind-the-scenes on Netflix’s new superhero epic ‘Supacell’. It’s a genre-twisting slice of London life that’s giving us superpowered heroes as we’ve never seen them before. And it’s the handiwork of Peckham’s own Andrew ‘Rapman’ Onwubolu. ‘Supacell’ is a long way from the rapper-writer-and-filmmaker’s guerilla-style  ‘Shiro’s Story ’. That attention-grabbing YouTube short signalled the arrival of a significant new talent back in 2018. If the bullish Londoner has anything to do with it, there’s a lot further to go.  ‘I know the ting’s levels above anything we’ve seen come out of the UK,’ Rapman says of his new superhero series. ‘I’m going big! I’ve put everything into this and I’m expecting to get everything back: the accolades, the numbers, the critical acclaim. I want all of it.’ He’s staying true to his roots, which is why I’m talking to him on a freezing November d...

He had previously turned down the opportunity to create the story for the first  Jurassic World film . Johansson confessed that she has been an “enormous” fan of the Jurassic Park franchise since the original premiered in 1993. “It’s one of the first films I remember seeing in the theater,” she gushed. “I remember seeing it so vividly. It was life-changing. It was mind-blowing. I cannot express how excited I am.” Johansson admitted that she has been wanting to get involved in the new installment for a long time and...

Eddie Murphy says the ‘Beverly Hills Cop’ movies are among his most important work.

Image
The intrepid actor does, however, consider his role of Axel Foley in the   “Beverly Hills Cop” franchise to be one that stands out among the rest. “Before ‘Beverly Hills Cop,’ there had never been a movie that starred a Black man, a Black person, that was successful all around the world,” Murphy said in a recent  interview with Extra, pegged to the upcoming fourth installment of the movie series titled “Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F.” Murphy went on to say that “even still to this day, when Black folks, we make movies, most of the time they work in the States and outside of the country, they don’t work.” The Oscar-nominated actor mentioned his previous work in “The Nutty Professor” and “Coming to America” as examples of movies he starred in that were global hits, but said that “’Beverly Hills Cop’ started it and started that.” Capping on that worldwide love for the franchise, Murphy also confirmed that a fifth installment is currently in the works, and that the film’s produ...
